6. Similar spectra


Spectra of strange baryons (lambda (uds), xi (dss) and omega (sss)) and antibaryons (anti-lambda, anti-xi and anti-omega) as function of transverse energy, mtrans. The most significant feature of the figure is that the slope of the spectra for a particle, e.g. the xi, and its antiparticle are very similar. The difference in the particle and antiparticle yields is a result of the quark­antiquark asymmetry in the plasma (figure 1). Data taken at mid-rapidity in lead­lead collisions at 158 GeV per nucleon by the CERN WA97 experiment.
