IOP Careers Service
The IOP Careers Service recognises that just because you’ve studied for a physics degree it does not mean that you will have exactly the same career objectives as your fellow physics graduates. We recognise the value of a physics degree and the variety of opportunities it presents and will be able to offer you help and advice you at any stage of your career. IOP provides careers support, guidance and advice in a variety of ways to suit your needs:
- Face-to-Face Careers Advice:
- You can book a face-to-face guidance session do discuss your career path, whether you are uncertain about your next career move and wish to discuss your options; require information about certain sectors; want to review your CV in relation to a job; want to improve your interview technique; are contemplating a career break or returning to work, or you have any other careers-related query, we can help. - Mobile Careers Advice:
- The careers service offers face-to-face careers interviews throughout the UK and Ireland. To find out when we will be visiting your area, e-mail members.careers@iop.org or get more information from IOP’s careers website.
- Telephone Guidance:
- If you are unable to attend a face-to-face session, we can offer telephone appointments to discuss your career. To book a telephone guidance session, e-mail members.careers@iop.org or contact Vishanti Lall or Joseph Wilkes on 020 7470 4906.
- E-Guidance:
- E-guidance is a platform for providing careers information on every aspect of your career. We can provide answers to questions about typical starting salaries, qualifications required for specific roles, typical careers paths and anything else. Submit your careers query at IOP’s e-guidance page. All careers advice and guidance is treated in confidence.
- Careers Fair:
- IOP hosts an annual graduate careers fair specifically targeted at students with or working towards science, engineering or technology degrees. The fair is attended by companies from a variety of sectors from defence and aerospace to banking and insurance. The fair also offers a CV clinic and a programme of careers presentations.
