Markarian 421

A 2D image of the dispersed X-ray spectrum of the source observed by Chandra that made the discovery possible. The image is impressive because of the extreme brightness of the source. It is also the brightest high resolution spectrum ever taken in X-rays (image courtesy of F Nicastro).
