Suspended nanotubes

An array of carbon nanotube transistors partially suspended from a silicon dioxide substrate. Electrons were injected from the contacting electrodes into the nanotube and gained enough energy at the suspended/supported substrate interface to generate tightly-bound electron-hole pairs, which subsequently neutralize each other and emit light.
