Schematic visualization of atomic ensembles in a cubic 3D optical lattice and their measured interference pattern after some time of flight following a sudden switch off of the lattice potential. In both pure bosonic ensembles (top row) as well as in ensembles with fermionic impurities (bottom row) the loss of the interference pattern with increasing lattice strength is a typical signature for localization. Clearly the fermionic impurities shift this transition with respect to the pure cloud (image and text: C Ospelkaus)
