5 Waves in three dimensions
These visualizations show the patterns of activity on the (a) inside (endocardial) and (b) outside (epicardial) heart wall. The phase of the waves are colour-coded, with red being the wavefront. The different activity patterns on the two surfaces suggest that the excitations are scroll waves, the three-dimensional equivalent of spiral waves.
