3 Brownian motion in action

Einstein is best known for his theories of relativity, but his work on Brownian motion in 1905 kick-started a revolution in statistical physics that is still going on today. Examples include the stock market, where Brownian-motion theory has been used to model the fluctuation of share prices, traffic flow and molecular motors, in which Brownian motion plays an important role in chemical transport in cells.
