The ICTP: showing the way

Founded in 1964, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is a UN institution jointly run by UNESCO, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Italian government. It supports advanced research in basic physics and mathematics especially (although not exclusively) among researchers in developing countries. Through its many high-quality research programmes, the ICTP aims to encourage talented young scientists from the developing world. A total of 100,000 scientists have visited the centre over its 40-year existence - about 50% of whom have come from the developing world. Indeed, visitors from developing countries account for about 75% of the total person-months at the centre. Image: ICTP.
