As computer algebra systems evolve, the traditional reliance on pencil and paper computations by theoretical physicists is decreasing. One tool, Maple, from Maplesoft, contains an unparalleled Physics Package, which seeks to further decrease the reliance on pencil and paper so that physicists can focus more on ideas, rather than the underlying mathematical calculations. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the Physics Package within Maple, which was designed exclusively for physicists by physicists. The goals of the Physics Package are to: implement a computational environment truly oriented for developing physics knowledge; reproduce the information presented in papers and standard textbooks in an easy to-use tool; allow access to internal routines of the tool so that users can develop specialized physics applications and work together with physicists from around the world interested in development of the environment.
