Coaxial Transmission Line
Coaxial Transmission Line
EIA Coaxial transmission line is designed and fabricated to exacting electrical and mechanical specifications. Optimum power transfer for 50, 75 and 100 OHM systems is obtained by utilizing high conductivity copper inner conductors that are supported by Teflon insulators. The outer conductors are precision drawn heavy wall copper tubing.
For maximum economy and minimum weight, Mega recommends the use of aluminum outer conductors when a slight increase in attenuation will not adversely affect your subsystem requirements.
The more popular coaxial transmission line sizes are tabulated below. Mega also offers special diameter coaxial transmission line sections and square or rectangular transmission line sections for your special requirements.
In high radiation areas where Teflon is not suitable, special polymer insulators or ceramic supports are available for sizes up to 14″ in diameter.
Coaxial Line Elbows
Mega's transmission line coaxial elbows are available with copper or aluminum outer conductor assemblies to provide you with flexibility in system design. These coaxial elbows are carefully fabricated to assure maximum mechanical stability and minimum VSWR over the entire operating frequency range of the elbow. For units of a different diameter not specified in the tables below contact our sales department.
Coaxial Line Gas Stop
Mega's coaxial gas stops or windows are fabricated to stringent electrical and mechanical specifications to provide a low VSWR, low insertion loss, compensated gas stop. Teflon dielectric and 1/8″ NPT-F fittings are supplied in our standard units, however, different fittings; ceramic or other dielectric materials are available of special service applications.
Coaxial Accessories
Mega has all the accessories that you need for prototype development and general laboratory use, Mega offers anchor connectors, anchor insulators, line insulators, half connectors, flanges, o-rings, hardware kits and hangers. Many of these accessories are stocked for immediate delivery.
Coaxial Adaptors to Type N
Mega's instrument quality coaxial adaptors are electrically compensated to provide minimum VSWR over a wide range of frequencies. Unless otherwise specified, adaptors are supplied with a male connector and a Type N female connector.
Coaxial Reducer
Mega offers a broad selection of coaxial reducers for ease in system interfacing. Reducers are available in copper and brass. Contact our sales department for information on coaxial reducers.
Coaxial Impedance Transformers
Coaxial impedance transformers are available in 1.5:1, 2:1, 3:1 and many other ratios with bandwidths up to 10:1. These computer designed units assure accurate transformations and minimum VSWR's commensurate with selected bandwidth.
Coaxial Tee Junctions
Mega manufactures a complete line of coaxial tee assemblies. There devices are available in either a matched or unmatched configuration.
Unmatched tees are used as a building block for notching elements, branch line couplers and hybrid couplers. These units include male connectors on 2 ports and are available in both aluminum and copper.
Matched tees are normally supplied for equal power division, however unequal power splits are readily available for special applications please consult our power divider page. Multi-stage transformers in the input leg provide low VSWR transformation over customer selected bandwidths.
Standard Tees are supplied with fixed style EIA flanges including male connectors on two ports and hardware kits with O-rings.
Coaxial Directional Coupler
The compact quarter-wave loop directional couplers have provision for an external load, which greatly increases the power handling capacity. Units are available in 10 dB increments form 20 dB through 70 dB coupling factors and many other values are available at no additional cost. All electrical data is traceable to the National Bureau of Standards.
Coaxial Directional Vestigial Loop Couplers
The vestigial loop directional couplers are extremely compact and provide broadband RF measuring capabilities. The monitors and reflectometers exhibit a 6 dB per octave response.
Coaxial Hybrid Couplers
Mega offers 3 dB 90° air-dielectric transmission line coaxial hybrid couplers in a variety of configurations and bandwidths. Electrical specifications for quarter-wave units over a 10% bandwidth are as follows:
Coaxial Phase Shifters
Mega's coaxial phase shifters are a constant impedance design with low insertion loss, low VSWR, and virtually no WOW. The standard travel lengths are tabulated below for both manual and motorized configurations. Remote position indicators via 10 KΩ potentiometer are standard on all coaxial phase shifters.
Coaxial Attenuators
Our variable coaxial attenuator designs utilize external loads and are capable of the full average power rating of the transmission line. Fixed Attenuators are available upon request.
Coaxial Filters
For suppression of unwanted harmonic power, Mega offers a comprehensive line of reactive and absorptive coaxial filters. Typical specifications are below.
As well as the units tabulated below, many other frequency ranges and attenuation levels are available. Contact our sales department for complete technical information.
Coaxial Switches and Patch Panels
A variety of switching configurations are available to satisfy almost any subsystem requirement. When infrequent switching is required, maximum economy is achieved with the use of multiple port patch links. These links are available in 1-5/8 through 9″ diameter line sizes and in 3, 4, 5 or 7 port configurations. Interlock kits are an option.
Rotary switch configurations are available for SPDT & DPDT. These units can be operated manually or can be motorized for remote control. Class C contacts are available for position and interlock capabilities.
Coaxial Rotary Joints
Mega offers both contacting and non-contacting coaxial rotary joints, in single and dual channel configurations. These coaxial rotary joints are rated at 60% of transmission line power and exhibit extremely low VSWR, WOW and insertion loss.
Contact our sales department for complete technical information.
Coaxial Power Divider
Coaxial power dividers are typically non-isolation for use in power distribution or combining applications. Input/output configurations are listed below for reference. Isolation power dividers are also available and designed to your specifications.
Coaxial Loads
Mega Industries offers a full range of coaxial high power loads to meet the most demanding specifications. Both water and air cooled loads are offered in different configurations to best suit the application. In general, the power handling of dry loads is limited to the amount of energy that be transferred to the surrounding air, generally in the range of up to 5kW. For higher power dissipation, transfer of the microwave energy to a water medium is preferred, and can handle up to 250kW, depending upon the users cooling facilities. In many configurations, it is necessary to use a "doped" solution for the load medium, and in this instance, an integrated heat exchanger system is offered as an option. For each and every load, the absolute maximum average and peak power handling is always limited by the standard ratings for the coax size itself, as given in this reference.
