Alignment
Mad City Labs offers a wide range of high resolution nanopositioners suitable for alignment applications. Our alignment nanopositioning systems are suitable for beam steering, metrology and inspection applications.
Low noise, high speed beam steering

The Nano-MTA Series are single axis and two axis piezoelectric mirror tip/tilt actuators. With nanoradian resolution, the Nano-MTA Series is ideal for applications involving laser beam steering, tracking, and scanning. Internal position sensors utilizing proprietary PicoQ™ technology provide absolute, repeatable position measurement under closed loop control. The ultra-low noise floor of the Nano-MTA series makes it suitable for sensitive applications that require long term stability. When used with the high power Nano-Drive™85 controller, the Nano-MTA Series is capable of continuous, high speed scans at 400 Hz and step response times down to 2 milliseconds. The Nano-MTA series is available with travel ranges up to 5 milliradian per axis and our USB enabled controllers are LabView compatible for ease of use.

Unique rotational system - Nano-Theta

The Nano-Theta is a unique piezo-actuated rotational stage having 2 milliradians of total motion. With nanoradian resolution, the Nano-Theta is designed for applications in lithography, optical disk manufacturing, and laser beam tracking or scanning. The innovative design of the Nano-Theta incorporates a readily accessible and well-defined axis of rotation which allows a mirror to be mounted so that it is co-planar with the axis of rotation. Internal position sensors utilizing proprietary PicoQ™ technology provide absolute, repeatable position measurement with nanoradian accuracy under closed loop control.

Lens positioning

Many microscopy and inspection applications require precision positioning of objective lens elements. Traditionally, the positioning of these elements has been via geared or driven elements, however with the increasing need for ever more precise and repeatable positioning, piezo positioning has gained favor.
The Nano-F Series are piezo focusing elements with 100 or 200 microns of travel. Internal position sensors utilizing proprietary PicoQ™ technology provide absolute, repeatable position measurement and picometer accuracy under closed loop control. The Nano-F Series offer an alternative to microscope stage Z-axis motion or can be used to provide automated microscope thermal expansion compensation. It can be used as a standalone item or in conjunction with other Mad City Labs nanopositioning systems. The Nano-F Series devices are constructed from aluminum and brass with integrated sensors for absolute position control. The quick mount adapter threads directly into the microscope so that the nanopositioner can be clamped onto the adapter without rotation. The interchangeable threads on the quick mount adapter allow the Nano-F Series to be used on all microscopes. The Nano-F Series is compatible with LabView based software, as well as Metamorph, Image Pro and other third party imaging software.
For high speed lens alignment, the Nano-OP series of piezo positioners can be easily adapted for precise lens positioning. This is particularly useful for applications that do not employ the traditional microscope architecture. Custom designs, based on the Nano-OP Series have been employed to assist with precision movement of heavy lens assemblies. As with all Mad City Labs products, the Nano-OP series is LabView compatible.

3D alignment

In many industrial applications, a trade-off between cost and precision must be made. The Nano-3D200 has been designed from the ground up to be a cost-effective solution for alignment and nano-manipulation applications.
The Nano-3D200 offers 200 microns of travel per axis, 1nm precision and a compact footprint that is compatible with both English and metric optical tables and other standard optical fixturing components making it ideal for fiber positioning and hybrid positioning applications. Designed for the practical user, there is a dedicated USB based controller with LabView software with a tutorial. In addition the positioning of the stage can be controlled via a gamepad console for ease of movement. The Nano-3D is a low cost precision positioning solution for applications that require high repeatability and longer ranges of motion.
