Aharonov Bohm Effect and Berry Phase Anniversary 50/25

This two-day meeting celebrates anniversaries of two major fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics: 50 years since the discovery of the Aharonov-Bohm effect, and 25 years since the discovery of the related geometric, or Berry phase. The meeting will take place in the Physics Department of the University of Bristol, where both effects were discovered, and the Aharonov-Bohm effect was first verified experimentally by Bob Chambers.

The Aharonov-Bohm effect and Berry phase describe remarkable aspects of quantum mechanics, which are intrinsic to the nonlocality, geometry and topology of physical systems. They play a fundamental part of our contemporary understanding of quantum physics and the effects of electromagnetic, gauge and other fields on all quantum systems.

The two-day meeting will consist of invited talks, and contributed posters, and will emphasize the enormous gamut of these effects across physics. These include Mathematical Physics, Quantum Chemistry, Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Information and Optics.
