IR camera imagery displayed at Paris Photo 2007 Nov 30, 2007
To celebrate the BMW Hydrogen 7 hybrid drive luxury performance car, three photographers were commissioned by BMW to deliver, using a SILVER 420M IR camera from Cedip Infrared Systems, striking new images for display at Paris Photo 2007.
To celebrate the achievements of the BMW Hydrogen 7 (the first hydrogen hybrid drive luxury performance car for everyday use) photographers Mi-Hyun Kim, Xavier Lucchesi and Nicolas Guerin, were commissioned by BMW to deliver, using a SILVER 420M IR camera from Cedip Infrared Systems, striking new images for display at Paris Photo 2007.
BMW has supported contemporary photography at Paris Photo since 2003. After three years of awards, the BMW-Paris Photo Prize has become an important coordinate on the international photography map. A panel of prestigious international experts pick the winner of this 12,000-Euro prize from among living artists represented by Paris Photo 2007 participating galleries. The theme for Paris Photo 2007 (15-18th November) was "Water, Origin of Life".
Hydrogen technology dramatically reduces emissions generated by personal transport and, in particular, minimises the emission of CO2. Running in the hydrogen mode, the BMW Hydrogen 7 essentially emits nothing but water vapour. And, unlike fossil fuels and traditional gasoline, hydrogen is available in virtually infinite supply. With the BMW Hydrogen 7, the BMW Group has laid down a marker for sustainable mobility. The car, introduced in 2007, will play a pioneering role in driving forward hydrogen technologies. BMW has gained an excellent reputation for significantly reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by using ultra efficient, yet very dynamic gasoline engines. Together with clean performance diesel cars and the technologically advanced hybrid systems currently under development within the BMW EfficientDynamics project, the BMW Group has a clear strategy for sustainable mobility with hydrogen as the ultimate solution.
Offering outstanding sensitivity, only normally found in expensive IR cameras dedicated to R&D applications, the Cedip Infrared Systems Silver 420M is an affordable IR camera based upon high-performance IR array detectors that gain additional sensitivity from a proprietary cryogenic cooling system.
The camera delivers up to 100 images per second in the full-image mode and several thousand images per second in partial-image mode at a constant sensitivity of less than 20mK. Top performance is achieved in the medium wavelength infra-red band (3 to 5um) with a resolution of 320x256 pixels.
Cedip Infrared Systems develops, designs, manufactures and markets high performance infrared cameras, systems and OEM modules for industrial, research, surveillance and security organisations. Thanks to a unique combination of technological know-how in electronics, optics, precision mechanics and software, Cedip's teams of engineers and highly qualified technicians, backed by a world network of informed distributors, support a growing customer base in more than 50 countries.
