Sapphire Jan 3, 2008

Material for Infrared components.

Single crystal sapphire combines an excellent optical , physical and chemical properties . Sapphire is the hardest oxide crystals with excellent transparency and thermal properties, transmission area from 1.5um to 6um in the middle infrared. Chemically inert and insoluble in almost everything, it is a superior material for windows. It can be safely made much more thinner than windows from glasses and other crystal. Sapphire exhibits anisotropy in many optical and physical properties. Different in index of refraction in orthogonal direction is 0.008. Exact parameters depend on orientation of optic axis or c-axis relative to the surface.
