New passively cooled diode laser with optimized heat sink design Aug 10, 2009

The Diode Lasers business unit of Jenoptik’s Lasers & Material Processing division was presenting at LASER 2009 trade show a new passively cooled diode laser with optimized heat sink design.

The new diode laser JOLD-120-CPNN-1L
Outstanding is the around 30% improved cooling efficiency of this laser using the new CN heat sinks when compared to the currently available standard diode lasers on the market. The diode has a cooling efficiency similar to that of those using micro-channel heat sinks. There is thus the possibility of combining a highly simplified construction with low demands on the cooling system to increase the optical output power of diode lasers by up to 25%, to increase operating temperature or to decisively prolong lifelime. The diode laser reaches an optical output power of up to 120 watts in continuous mode. Optionally, a collimation of this laser is possible. The start of series production is planned for the third quarter of 2009.
