New technology for Picosecond Photon Correlation Measurements Oct 29, 2009

One aim are so-called "photon guns", exhibiting sub-Poissonian photon statistics, which may revolutionize technology in various fields such as ultra-precise measurement, quantum cryptography and quantum computing.

The drawback of this conventional approach is the limited time resolution caused by the temporal behaviour of the detectors, making it impossible to measure correlations on a picosecond timescale. However, this is important for the development of photon guns operating at very high photon repetition rates.

Hamamatsu Photonics, a specialist in the field of ultrafast optical measurements based on streak technology, announce a new type of system (patent pending) which employs technology for photon correlation measurements with unprecedented temporal resolution.
