Emily Toomey is a PhD student contributor to Physics World. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US, where she also obtained her Master’s. Her research focuses on the development of superconducting nanoscale devices for electronic circuits. Outside of engineering, she spends most of her time oil painting and baking.
