Henrietta Smith

Henrietta Smith is a PhD student contributor to Physics World. Her PhD research at the Pyne Lab at the University of Sheffield, UK, focuses on understanding genome organization in bacteria and parasites. Using atomic force microscopy, she characterizes how HU, one of the most abundant DNA organizational proteins, interacts with DNA at high resolution, looking into how DNA damage and superhelicity influence these interactions. Outside research, she loves to crochet, read and play ice hockey.
