Jessica Petree

Jessica Petree is a PhD student contributor to Physics World. Jessica is studying chemistry at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her BS in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Georgia in 2011. The focus of her undergraduate work was studying 3’ end processing of tRNAs in E.coli.

At Emory, Jessica pioneered an RNA gene therapy project, combining engineering with chemistry at the nano/bio interface by building a nanoparticle-enzyme construct that could splice RNA. The focus of her work is examining the activity of spherical nucleic acids as drug delivery vehicles to knock down harmful genes inside cells.

As a graduate student, Jessica gained a love for mentoring younger students and writing. In her spare time, she writes novels and news articles, spends time with her young son and plays computer games with her husband John.
