Ruaridh Smith

Ruaridh Smith is a PhD student contributor to Physics World. Ruaridh obtained an MPhys degree at the University of Strathclyde, UK, and went on to spend a year working at the European Space Agency as a graduate trainee in nanophotonics. He is currently undertaking an engineering doctorate at the Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) in Glasgow, UK, as a member of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Photonic Integration and Advanced Data Storage (CDT PIADS). The focus of the EngD is integrated quantum-optic sources and detectors within the framework of industrially focused projects at Fraunhofer CAP. Outside of research he enjoys running, reading and cooking.
