Stephanie Law is a former PhD student contributor to Physics World. Stephanie started her academic studies at the University of Liverpool, graduating with a first class honours degree in zoology in 2005. She returned 10 years later to embark on a PhD in environmental science. The intervening years led Stephanie to explore the world of teaching, expeditions and youth development. While employed as a teacher of biology she led a number of expeditions to the Peruvian Amazon and gained an MSc in conservation science. With a passion for tropical rainforests, Stephanie completed her MSc thesis on tracking frugivorous monitor lizards in the Sierra Madre mountain range in the north-east Philippines. Her PhD returned to rainforests but this time to the canopy. Her research focused on the vertical stratification and ecological functioning of ants in tropical rainforests.
