Biological membranes are complex, dynamic architectures that underpin a wide array of essential cellular functions. Dissecting their structural and functional roles in biochemical pathways is fundamental to advancing our understanding of cell biology. Similarly, mimicking their sophisticated behaviours is central to bottom-up synthetic biology, where the goal is to engineer advanced synthetic cellular agents with life-like capabilities.

This two-day symposium will bring together leading experts and early-career researchers to explore the state of the art and open challenges in the design, characterisation, and application of biomimetic and bio-inspired membranes for biology, biophysics, and biotechnology. By integrating invited and contributed talks with poster sessions, the event aims to foster discussion and spark new collaborations across this highly diverse and interdisciplinary field.
