Nonlinear and Complex Physics: Emergence Workshop

29 January 2026 | London, UK

The emergence of clear signals and trends from seemingly chaotic nonlinear system states occurs in a wide range of fields, such as fluid dynamics, solid state physics, neuroscience, the social sciences and within the financial markets. The workshop will include talks from the committee members of the IOP special interest group Nonlinear and Complex Physics on a range of profound examples of emergence, highlighting the need to consider and account for these complex nonlinear systems. This will motivate group discussions where we will explore whether universal characteristics of emergence can be identified. Come along for a great chance to learn more about this fascinating topic and to network with the UK Physics community and friends.
