Curiouser and curiouser: the strange case of quantum Cheshire cats

Continuing our celebration of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, this month’s cover feature by Iulia Georgescu looks at one of the weirdest effects in quantum physics – the notion of “quantum Cheshire cats”. Sidney Perkowitz, meanwhile, examines the life and work of Grete Hermann, who was one of the pioneers of the philosophical implications of quantum mechanics. Finally, Mauro Paternostro – editor-in-chief of the IOP Publishing journal Quantum Science and Technology – speculates on where the field is going next.
