The foreign media often present a skewed view of modern-day Mexico as a land riddled with violence, drugs and corruption. While the nation clearly faces big political and economic challenges, there are also many positive stories that go untold to the outside world because they are not deemed to be dramatic or significant enough for global news. We believe that many physicists in Mexico are doing engaging and vital work that deserves to be more widely known. In choosing our coverage for this special report, we have not only focused on the challenges for the Mexican physics community, but also hope to give you a flavour of the rich culture and geography of this most colourful of countries.
