Which devices will it work on?

The Physics World app will work on most smartphones and tablets. Versions are available for both Apple and Android devices.

What's in the Physics World app?

The app includes the monthly issues of magazine, Physics World focus issues and special reports, plus extra digital-only content.

How do I get the latest issue?

The app will automatically update with the latest issue and give you the option to download it when convenient.

Can I receive notifications of new issues?

If you are using the Apple app, we'll send you a message to notify you when new issues are available, providing you have "Notifications" turned on in your device "Settings".

Can I use the app when I am offline?

Providing issues have been downloaded, you can read them when you are offline. You will however need a connection to view any video content.

Does the monthly issue expire?

No. Provided you have a current membership of the Institute of Physics you will be able to access every issue of Physics World since the new release in July 2014. Non-members of the Institute will be able to access all the focus issues and special reports.

How much does the app cost?

The app is free to download, but access to the monthly magazine is restricted to members of the Institute of Physics. Membership starts from just £15 for 12 months, or free for undergraduate students.

What if I'm not a member?

Anyone with an interest in physics can join the Institute. For instant membership, visit the IOP website to find out more about the different membership packages available.

Help with logging in

When you first open the app, you will be asked to log in using your IOP membership username and password. You will only need to log in once; after that, the app will remember your log-in details to provide you with immediate access to all issues.
