Boosting infrared spectroscopy, making complexity a descriptive science, artificial intelligence in medical physics

In this installment of the Physics World Weekly podcast we look at how a new technique for infrared spectroscopy uses ultrashort laser pulses to minimize problems associated with noise. We chat with the physicist and mathematician Ginestra Bianconi of Queen Mary, University of London about how our ability to make complexity science a predictive effort is providing important insights into epidemics and other collective behaviours.

We also discuss some recent examples of how artificial intelligence is being used in medical physics and argue the case for standards defining the graphene content of commercial products.
