Quiz of the year 2013

29 Nov 2013 Margaret Harris

By Margaret Harris

Physics World’s light-hearted quiz about the year in physics has occupied the back page of the December print edition every year since 2004 and this year, as we did last year, we’ve created an interactive online version. The 2013 quiz can be found here and although there’s no prize for getting a high score, you’ll be able to check your results once you’ve completed all of the 25 questions. Each question is based on an event or story that the magazine has reported on this year.

This is a very different sort of quiz from the series of five GCHQ-authored puzzles we published on this blog last month, so if those puzzles left your brain aching, don’t panic: this one’s just a bit of fun, and you’ll probably breeze through it in about five minutes.

However, if you’re one of many readers who wrote to us to say that you’ll miss your weekly brain-bender, we’ve got something for you as well: page 17 of the December issue of the magazine contains a bonus puzzle called “Odd ON out”.

Members of the Institute of Physics (IOP) can access the puzzle (and, indeed, the rest of the December issue) free of charge via the digital version of the magazine or by downloading the Physics World app onto an Apple or Android device. These apps are available from the App Store and Google Play, respectively.

Give the 2013 quiz a try.
