Bashi Thipe
Bashi Thipe is a PhD student contributor to Physics World. He is based at the Botswana International University of Science & Technology (BIUST), where he serves as both a doctoral researcher and a junior lecturer. His PhD research examines how molecular interactions in liquid environments, particularly hydrogen bonding and solvent effects, shape the performance of solar-energy materials. By combining spectroscopy, thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and electrochemical methods, he investigates how these interactions influence dye extraction, nanoparticle growth and charge-transfer processes in renewable-energy devices. He is passionate about sustainable materials science and the development of cost-effective solar technologies that can be produced using locally available resources. Outside the lab, Bashi enjoys teaching, science outreach, and translating complex research into accessible narratives that inspire broader audiences.
