Preetish Kakoty

Preetish Kakoty is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at University College London and a 2026 Association of British Science Writers Media Fellow. His research sits at the intersection of natural hazard simulation, structural engineering and decision science. Preetish uses statistical and physics-based modelling tools to estimate disaster impacts and support risk-informed decision-making for the built environment. Effective risk communication is a central part of his work, helping to bridge gaps between researchers across disciplines and to translate scientific evidence for policymakers and the public. Ultimately, his goal is to support better decisions that reduce disaster risk and improve resilience. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, playing sports (usually badly) and reading history.
