Whitney Perez is a PhD student contributor to Physics World and a PhD candidate in the medical physics programme at Purdue University, US. Her research focuses on the replication and characterization of radiation-induced brain injury, a side effect of cranial radiotherapy, using a paediatric mini-pig model. Aside from research, Whitney is also interested in making science education more accessible, engaging and meaningful to the public. In her free time, she can be found reading epic fantasy, tending to her houseplants or spending time with her family.
