Oscar Williams

Oscar Williams is a PhD student contributor to Physics World. Oscar is a student at the Advanced Characterisation of Materials CDT, which is a collaborative PhD between University College London and Imperial University. The broad scope of his research involves the investigation of catalysis exhibited in gold nanoparticles, primarily explored through scanning tunnelling microscopy alongside other surface science techniques.

Oscar grew up surfing the Cornish waters, before moving to Bristol to study physics, beside a brief stint working for the R&D department of a secure document printer. He then moved to London to start his PhD, where he gained a love for teaching, rock climbing and general adventuring. He also does a lot of outreach and public engagement related to hydrogen as a clean alternative energy source to fossil fuels, and hopes to use his scientific knowledge to make a tangible difference to the world.
