Michael Shannon is a network contributor to Physics World. He is currently a researcher in the Takeharu Nagai lab at Osaka University, Japan, and his work focuses on super-resolution microscopy and optogenetics in T cells.
Michael studied molecular nano-clustering for his PhD at King's College London, using super-resolution microscopy and mathematics to investigate T cells. During his PhD, Michael wrote for the Biophysical Society and for the Randall Department’s blog at King’s College.
Now that he has moved from London to Osaka, Michael is eating too much rice, drinking Minoh beer and investigating minority biology – nanoscale fringe events that lead to cell-wide change. Outside of the lab, he likes to cycle, read, dance and, recently, sing karaoke.
